Allergy-Free Recipes: How To Easily Cook For Kids With Food Allergies — Friendly Pantry Food Allergy Consulting Inc. (2024)

(Including Top 8 Allergy-Free, Milk-Free, Egg-Free, Wheat-Free, Soy-Free, Mustard-Free or Sesame-Free and More)

Does this sound impossible? I mean, food allergies and easy don’t seem to go in the same sentence. Trust me, you’re not alone. But I’m here to tell you it can be done! There are 3 Tips you need.

  1. Get a guide to help you (That’s me).

  2. Use Meal Planning (it’s simpler and easier than you think and once you try it my way you’ll keep going).

  3. Learn how to cook with simple ingredients (this is key and again, way easier when you know how to do it!)

First of all, I know how hard “momming” is, and finding allergy-safe food and substitutions isn’t easy. How on earth should you ever find the time to become a better allergy cook when you have so many different things demanding your attention?

I get it and it’s a major problem.

A problem that I’m familiar with because I went through it back when I was a new allergy mom. I started with family recipes and worked on making them allergy-friendly AND tasty. Let me tell you, it wasn’t a quick and easy process. There were some wins, but many, many fails (which usually meant we would “grin and bear it” during dinner but promptly throw out the leftovers and the recipe afterwards).

It wasn’t just the cooking that was hard, it was the fact that I was at the mercy of whether the recipe would work for our allergens OR if I could find the replacements to make the recipes work.

And then there was the question as to whether my kids would EAT the food I made.

There was nothing more deflating than spending hours cooking a meal only to have my kids complain and decide they didn’t want to eat it. I felt like a failure. I was looking after the kids, learning how to be a new mom and trying to be an allergy foodie in the kitchen. It was a lot to manage and it wasn’t easy.

After many years (15 actually), I’ve come so far with cooking. Not only have I figured out the best allergy replacements that work, but I feel like a natural in the kitchen and like I can make (almost) anything. In fact, I even created an allergy-friendly recipe book. In the beginning, I had no idea I could create one recipe, let alone a whole book of them! And I’m efficient at it too. I’ve learned meal-planning tips and tricks that help make cooking quick and efficient.

So, what would I do differently, if I could do it all again?

Get a guide to help me.

I would find someone to show me the ropes and give me the exact methods and tools that work so I wouldn’t need to make so many mistakes and struggle so much.

I didn’t need to do it all and figure it all out. If I had found help with allergy-free cooking I could have focused more on other food allergy tasks like playdate emails and explaining how severe allergies are to friends & family.

Not only that but instead of all that time making mistakes and feeling like a failure in the kitchen I could have beenusing my minutes, hours, and years watching my babies grow. And spending time with them in the most important years of their life. I didn’t need to do it all. I just needed to be their mom.

So I encourage you to get help with food allergy cooking during this journey. Don’t try to be it all. Getting help is invaluable because there’s one thing I can promise. It’s that you’ll never look back and wish you had spent more time in the kitchen, but you will wish you could go back in time and spend more of it with your babies.

With that said, I hope you’ll consider me as your guide! I care about you and your food allergy little and I want to help!

If you’re ready to let me guide you, then read on to learn more about how to get unlimited allergy-free recipes and easily cook tasty allergy meals.

It All Starts With Meal Planning

Ok, hear me out. I know you just want to get to the unlimited allergy-free recipes, but I'll get there, don’t worry! But if we want to get EASY cooking, we need more than just the recipes. We need a way to make finding and deciding what to make EASY. Meal planning will do this for you and it’s the KEY to easy allergy-free meals.

If done right, meal planning will:

  • make shopping easier and less stressful.

  • save time deciding what to make every day AND save time while shopping because you have a clear plan.

  • take the stress out of snacks and mealtimes.

Not only can meal planning make things easier and save time, but it’s a great way to save money.

Meal planning will help you save money by:

  • giving you a weekly plan so you only buy what you need so you’re not letting food go to waste in your fridge (and throwing money away).

  • allowing you to shop sales so you're not overspending.

  • reducing the number of expensive allergy-specialty convenience foods like allergy-friendly pizza or chicken fingers that you buy.

These seemingly small actions will save A LOT of money.

Have I sold you on meal planning yet?

If so, then it’s time to start talking about how to get unlimited allergy-free recipes…

How To Get Unlimited Allergy-Free Recipes

In the beginning of our food allergy journey, I was constantly on the lookout for new allergy-safe recipes. Unfortunately, l found that many of the recipes had the allergens we needed to avoid and so I was back to either searching for a safe product to replace the allergens or looking for different recipes.

It wasn’t until I started to get a good handle on the best simple replacements AND learned to cook simple meals from scratch that things started to get better.

In fact, understanding how to make simple meals without a recipe opened up an unlimited supply of allergy-safe recipes.
I honestly thought it would be hard to do, but with a few key methods, it was way easier than I thought!

Here's what I mean by using simple ingredients to replace allergens:

Did you know you can replace sour cream using a simple ingredient like avocados and lime juice?

OR

That you can replace soy sauce with a mixture of broth, lime juice, onion powder and salt (you don't need expensive coconut aminos!)?

OR

That you can replace eggs with applesauce plus baking soda?

There are examples for every allergen out there, but I want you to know that...

You don’t need expensive allergy replacements, you just need a good knowledge of the flavors and textures you’re trying to replace in each recipe.
