Casey's General Store rebrands logo for the first time in 50 years (2024)
Casey's General Store is no more. Now, it's just "Casey's."
The iconic Midwestern gas station company revealed its rebranding Thursday, dropping the "General Store" in its name and stripping the red and yellow barn paint logo in favor of a solid red symbol, featuring its classic rooster weathervane and an updated font.
The change comes after 50 years of the classic logo design stamped across South Dakota, Iowa and severalother states. But this new logo will reflect an updated digital presence and customer experience, said Katie Petru, Casey's director of communications.
"It's a symbol of the more modern guest experience that we offer today, while also reflecting our community roots and heritage, Petru said.
Chief Marketing Officer Chris Jones told the Des Moines Register thatthe decision to remove General Storefrom the logo was the result of study and deliberation. Customers in focus groups weren't sure what a general store was in 2020 —instead, they thought of Casey's as a convenience store, gas station and pizzeria (it's ranked among the biggest-selling pizza chains in the country).
“They think of us on more of a first-name basis," Jones said."They know us as Casey’s."
Since the first branded store opened in Boone, Iowa 52 years ago, the company has expanded to become the fourth-largest convenience store operator in the nation. The business has launched a smart phone app, online rewards program and more in recent years.
The rollout of the logo will start with the company's app and website, as well as a new Ankeny, Iowastore near Des Moines.
It'll be a while until Sioux Falls will see the new branding though, Petrusaid, since there are more than 2,200 stores across the region. The company declined to say how much it plans to spend on the project.
The convergence of two matters prompted the Ankeny-based convenience store chain to make the change, according to Chris Jones, senior vice president and chief marketing officer. Firstly, guests began telling the retailer that Casey's logo was feeling outdated because of its colors and shapes.
