Jesus endured suffering beyond compare for our salvation.
Because Jesus overcame pain, humiliation, the heavy burden of the Cross, and death, we believe that we, too, can endure as we journey toward salvation.
Praying five decades of the rosary, we contemplate five Sorrowful Mysteries:
Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane
Jesus prayed fervently before His arrest and the crucifixion so that He would have the strength to do His Father’s will.
Scourging of Jesus at the Pillar
Finding no crime for which Jesus should be crucified, Pontius Pilate had Him whipped. The crowd wanted nothing less that crucifixion.
Crowning with Thorns
Soldiers mocked Jesus, putting a crown of thorns on His head while calling him “king.”
Carrying the Cross
Jesus carried the heavy cross, a burden borne for the salvation of sinners.
Crucifixion and Death
Nothing that people could do to Jesus was greater than God’s plan of salvation over the power of sin and death.
