Since starting at MPA in 9th grade, I've succeeded much more than I could have ever imagined. I've been able to participate in debate, the arts, volunteering, working a job, and much more, all while managing the MPA workload. MPA's small community has helped me connect with my classmates. Blake develops independent learners and fosters a curiosity of life long learning. We found Blake to be diverse and open to evolving for its students and faculty. They are committed to their families and there is a deep sense of community. The students test scores alone boast excellence. We were not originally open to the idea of a private education for our children but the experience for us has been priceless. The low student to teacher ratios ensure your child will be engaged and supported based on their needs. When touring other private schools Blake stood out. We love that they prioritize children's mental health and wellness- Children regularly meet with their counselors and are immersed in nature. The passions of their educators is undeniable. The buildings are kept immaculate and their safety/ security is next level. I encourage anyone to visit Blake who may be curious.... 6. #5 Best Private High Schools in Minneapolis-St. Paul AreaBreck SchoolMinneapolis, MN•Private School•PK, K-12•Rating 4.28 out of 5 110 reviewsSenior: I've had a relatively good experience at Breck, but the school has multiple shortcomings. The food is bad and if the lunchroom wasn't equipped with a panini press I wouldn't eat lunch multiple days of the week. While most teachers are lovely and supportive, some teachers fail to teach their subjects to the point where students can understand them, and assign homework as if we don't have 6 other classes to also do work for. Admin has made it a habit of not telling students what is happening at our school, the students are always last to know if something bad happens, which is frustrating. Overall, the community is decent but lacking in diversity, and the majority of funding goes to sports leaving the arts department lacking in budget. The tuition is also expensive.... They did a remarkable job keeping us engaged and connected - both socially and technically. I have a great group of friends, some of which have been my best friends since Kindergarten. 11. Orono Senior High SchoolOrono Public School District, MN•9-12•Rating 3.97 out of 5 206 reviewsSenior: It has been a much more positive and supportive experience attending Orono High School than I ever could have hoped for when I started my Freshman year during the peak pandemic. I was so nervous to start my high school experience in a mask after not having had a normal orientation or having met any of my teachers. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see how they handled it all and how welcomed many of my peers and I felt. Some of my best experiences would include the annual pep fests and school dances held by my student body government. The only bad experiences I have with Orono High School are not connected to my high school but rather my own personal experience with growing up and this challenging time that is attending High School in itself. I would just like to see people being more accepting of each other and focusing on bringing each other up rather than pushing each other down. I think having a class or two outside during the warmer months would be really uplifting too!... With extensive curriculums and dedicated teachers, the school allows for students to flourish in a positive school environment, while preparing for the future. However, some things need to be addressed. This school often sacrifices the education of advanced learners to adapt to more generic and basic functions. For example, I am a student in several AP classes. However, I often feel as if when I am not in these classes, such as Spanish, since AP Spanish is not offered, the rest of the class is holding me back. From feeling timid and isolated as a freshmen to becoming a teacher's assistant in the choral environment, I have developed essential skills like leadership and courage that will not only affect my present and future, but it will also inspire many other underclassmen who look up to my developing character as inspiration. I'll admit I've had some rough times, especially when it comes to dealing with homework from subjects I particularly didn't like, such as history and biology, but I've managed to keep my head up and to excel within my academics and utilize my full potential to accumulate success. If I had to change one thing about my school, as funny as this sounds, just enhance the quality of the school lunches. Many of the teachers supported us throughout life and still love when we come to visit. The ETD and FCS classes were very hands on and kept students engaged which was one of the best parts of middle school. In 8th grade there’s also a big country project that many students looked forward to and it was a fun interactive thing to do. Most of the classes the teaches were relaxed yet still engaged, each teacher seemed to love the subject. The sports teams were fun and competitive and created a good environment for students.
