Duolingo boosted daily engagement by upto 20% for millions of users globally by introducing user leaderboards! But how did they do it and how to build right effective leaderboards in your #product? It used leaderboards effectively to foster a sense of competition and community among users to build the habit of learning, there by boosting engagement and retention massively. Let's learn how they did it and what we can learn from it!Learners on the app are grouped into leagues, and they earn points (or 'XP') by completing lessons and activities. As users accumulate points, they climb up the leaderboard, potentially moving up to higher leagues. This gives users a clear goal to strive for, makes the learning process more engaging, and provides a sense of achievement and progression. To build effective leaderboards in your product, here are some key factors product managers should consider:🎯 Clear Goals: The objective of the leaderboard should be clear and straightforward. In Duolingo, the goal is to earn as many XP points as possible by learning.🏆 Fair Competition: Leaderboards should be designed to promote fair competition. Duolingo does this by grouping users into leagues based on their activity level, ensuring that they're competing with others at a similar level.🔄 Frequent Updates: To keep users engaged and motivated, the leaderboard should be updated frequently. This gives users a reason to check back often and continue using the product.📈 Visible Progress: Users should be able to easily see their progress and position on the leaderboard. This provides a sense of achievement and motivates them to continue striving for the top spot.⚖️ Balanced Incentives: The rewards for topping the leaderboard should be appealing enough to motivate users but balanced enough to avoid encouraging unhealthy usage patterns. Duolingo rewards top users with progression to higher leagues and offers additional in-app benefits like virtual currency or power-ups.Remember, leaderboards are not suitable for every product or every user. It's essential to understand your user base and ensure that the competitive element of leaderboards aligns with your users' motivations and your product's overall goals. When done right, leaderboards can be a powerful tool to drive engagement and retention in your product. What are your thoughts on gamification and leaderboards?#productmanagement #userengagement #gamification #duolingo #edtech #productmanagers #productdesigners #userexperience #engagement #learning #community

I rarely write product reviews, but my experience with Skool has been so transformative that I felt compelled to share. Skool is a unique blend of a community and courses platform, designed with a clear focus on putting the community at the center of the student's experience. Founded by the renowned online entrepreneur Sam Ovens, Skool has rapidly grown, filling gaps in the online course platform market with its innovative approach. What sets Skool apart is its comprehensive feature set. From course creation to community creation with user-generated content, direct messaging, a leadership board for gamification and rewards, and even a visual calendar to organize online/offline events, Skool has it all. The recent addition of a mobile app has made it even more accessible, allowing users to stay connected on the go.The platform's user experience is sleek and intuitive, making it one of the easiest platforms to set up and manage. The back-end interface is clear and concise, and the course user experience is polished and well-organized.However, what truly makes Skool stand out is its community feature. The ability for users to create posts, engage in discussions, and earn points and levels for valuable contributions is a game-changer. It fosters a sense of camaraderie and engagement that is often missing from most online courses. While Skool does have a few areas for improvement, such as the lack of learning tools like membership landing page builders, lead-gen quizzes and assessments, the platform's strengths far outweigh these shortcomings. The team behind Skool is continuously working on enhancing the platform, and I am excited to see how it evolves. In terms of pricing, Skool offers a straightforward plan of $99 per month per group, which includes an unlimited number of members, a community, a classroom with unlimited courses, and a calendar. While this might seem steep compared to other platforms, the value it provides, especially for community-centered programs, is well worth the investment. In conclusion, Skool is a robust and innovative platform that is perfect for course creators looking to build a vibrant community. It simplifies the process of organizing a community and provides a platform for meaningful engagement and interaction. I highly recommend Skool to any course creators looking to take their programs to the next level.#Skool #OnlineCoursePlatform #Review #CommunityBuilding #CourseCreation
